I have been teaching Art in an Elementary School for 11 years. I was honored to be Teacher of the Year in 2002 & 2004 and Art Educator of the Year in 2002. It is my responsibility and passion to awaken in children an interest in art.
The arts give us a language that helps us to see the connections in our world. I will provide a variety of art experiences with appropriate and challenging materials in order for the kids to create art that is meaningful to them.
I look forward to making a creative difference in your child's life!
I believe that art is an area which allows students of all ages to express themselves as an individual. Art can provide the means for communicating thoughts, emotions and ideas that cannot otherwise be expressed. It is the development of this unique individual that art education makes it chief concern. Art is one of the few areas where a child can release their feelings; therefore, it is a medium of creative expression by which the child reveals him or herself. At the same time the child is finding their self-identity.
Art education has its own place in the developmental process. I feel art promotes mental, physical and emotional growth in all children and the art program contributes to the child's development of self-confidence through recognition and respect for his or her own ideas and visual experience.
It is my responsibility as the art teacher to awaken in children an interest in art through visual, tactile and emotional perception and understanding. Most importantly, my goal as the art teacher is to relate and integrate art with every subject area of learning. The arts give us a language that cuts across the disciplines, help us to see connections and bring a more coherent meaning to our world.
The history of art education in the United States is one of continuous adaptation to meet social and cultural change related to the needs of society. Therefore, art education must be unique to each school, each group of children and in fact, each child.
My teaching style is based on the components: art history, art criticism, art production and aesthetics. I will provide a variety of experiences with appropriate and challenging materials in order for the students to create art that is meaningful to them and create a lasting enjoyment of art that will continue into adult life and exert a positive influence in our culture.
